Planning and Noise

Proposals for a noise sensitive use such as housing to be located close to a significant source of noise may require a planning application to be supported with a noise assessment. This allows the local authority Planners to consider the proposal in terms of the noise impact on future residents.

Alpha can assist planning applicants through the following services:

• Liaison with the local authority throughout – from project inception through to granting of permission.
• On site noise surveys.
• Determination of PPG24 Noise Exposure Categories
• Assessment of noise impact by comparison against acceptability criteria, including full PPG24 assessments
• Consideration of noise mitigation options which may be required to reduce noise impacts.
• Where outline planning permission has already been granted, conditions may be imposed which require a noise assessments or ongoing compliance monitoring.
• Alpha Acoustics can also provide a range of air quality services. Air quality impacts often arise alongside noise particularly where road traffic noise is an issue.
