Adrian Ray, the Principal of Alpha Acoustics, has appeared as an Expert Witness in a range of legal cases where noise was a key issue.

Whilst working within local government Adrian represented the Council at a number of Planning Inquiries and transport tribunals, in cases where noise, and its adverse effects, were key.

Within private consultancy Adrian has been appointed on many occasions as a Single Joint Expert in cases between landlords and tenants. Commonly tenants may be subject of an eviction order for alleged domestic noise nuisances. In such cases, whilst the activities of tenants can be material, the sound insulation qualities of the property may also have a bearing.

In these cases Adrian brings his local authority experience of domestic noise nuisance and its origins together with his capabilities as an experienced sound insulation test engineer. Evidence is given for the benefit of the Court on both the objective tests of sound insulation and more subjective aspects of acoustic privacy and nuisance.

Adrian has also appeared as a Single Joint Expert in the High Court in a case of a local authority and resident in dispute about the noise impact of an altered road, and the Council’s failure to consider the resident’s Human Rights.
